# Agent Pets

> Agent Pets is a library of animated companions for AI workflows. It offers native Codex installation and independent browser companion windows alongside Claude Code, Hermes, OpenClaw, Cursor, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, or any other agent.

## Key facts

- The agent picker remembers your choice and changes setup guidance. Codex has a native installer. Hermes has native manual setup; its current player caps states at six frames, so longer cycles can differ. No custom-atlas importer was verified for the other listed agents as of October 5, 2026.
- Public browser companions use independent local play. An opt-in loopback bridge can receive working, attention, done, error, and idle signals. It does not read prompts, chats, or tool output. Claude Code, Cursor, and Gemini CLI have hook snippet generators; OpenClaw, OpenCode, and other tools can call the generic notify command. Users must review and configure hooks themselves.
- The storefront includes all 35 companions and 43 downloadable visual variants in seven collections. Every active pet package is reachable through a companion page. Retired source packages remain in the repository for historical QA.
- Every featured package includes `pet.json` and `spritesheet.webp`.
- The storefront previews nine states: idle, run right, run left, wave, jump, failed, waiting, working, and review.
- Version 2 atlases add a neutral cell and 16 look directions.
- Codex hi-bit art uses crisp 2x pixel geometry, binary alpha, deliberate color clusters, and transparent safety padding.
- Technical checks cover cutoffs, pixel-grid integrity, palette control, and transparent padding. These checks do not certify visual quality: the latest all-frame audit records unresolved pose-scale and character-consistency issues separately.

## Install

Select your agent first. For Claude Code, OpenClaw, Cursor, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, or Other agent, choose Open companion window on a pet page. Keep the browser window beside your agent. For real status signals, download the optional local bridge from the setup guide. Browser chrome and always-on-top behavior depend on the browser.

For Hermes, extract the original package into your active HERMES_HOME/pets folder without replacing existing pets, run `hermes pets select <folder-name>` and `hermes pets doctor`. Hermes Desktop supports Shift-click to pop out its native pet. This package-format path was source-checked, not tested in a native Hermes session here.

For native Codex installation, click Install in Codex, or use the manual package:

1. Download a pet ZIP from its catalog detail page.
2. Extract it into `${CODEX_HOME:-$HOME/.codex}/pets/<pet-id>/`.
3. Restart Codex or reload its pet list.
